Sivasagar

This city holds special importance in Assam. Rangpur was the traditional name of this town. The first name of this city was ‘Kalansupar’ after the name of ‘Kalansu Gohain’. Who resided in a village existed in the place where currently the “Sivasagar tank” located. This city establised in 1228. This was the capital of the Ahom rulers from 1699 to 1788 The ahoms kingdom ruled Assam for six centuries.

The name of the city came from the “Sibsagar tank” situated in the middle of the city. Sivasagar lake is the main attraction of this city. This lake is also known as Borpokhuri. The lake built by the Ahom king Siva Singha. On the bank of the Sivasagar tank. There are three temples most well-known is Sivadol, the temple on lord Shiva. The other temples are Vishnudol and Devidol.

There are many places to visit in Sivasagar. Including Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Talatal Ghar, Joypukhuri, Borpukhuri etc.

Rang Ghar

Rang Ghar the meaning of rang ghar is House of entertainment. The building was first built by Ahom king “Swargadeo Rudra Singha” with bamboo and wood. It absolutely was later remodeled with a brick by “Swargadeo Pramatta Singha” in AD 1744-1750. Rang Ghar used by the Ahom kings for watching a different type of sports and cultural programmes. Buffalo fight, Cockfight and Bihu dance etc.

Kareng Ghar

Kareng Ghar situated in Gargaon 15km away from the Sivasagar city. Kareng Gar was a Royal House of Tai- Ahom kings. It represents the beautiful architecture of the Ahom kingdom. It used only stone and wood by the “Sunenphaa” son of “Rudra Singha” in 1751.

Talatal Ghar

Talatal Ghar located in Rangpur 4km away from the Sivasagar city. This also shows a great example of Ahom kingdom architecture. Talatal Ghar built by the Sargadeo Rajeshar Singha. Its used brick and indigenous type of cement mixing Bora chaul (Sticky rice grain) and egg of swan etc.

Sibsagar tank

This tank builds between in 1731 to 1738. All the temples built in 1734 by Bar Raja Ambika queen of Swargadeo Siba Singha.Sivadol the temple on Lord Shiva. Vishnudol temple on Lord Vishnu and Devidol temple on Goddess Durga. All are the temples located on the bank of “Sibsagar tank” or “Borpukhuri”.

Sivasagar

Joypukhuri or Joysagar tank

This tank built by the Swagadeo Rudra Singha. On the memory of his mother Joymoti at Rangpur. Historical records show that the tank built in 45 days at Rangpur in 1697. It is the largest man-made lake in India.

Charaideo

Charaideo or Che-Rai-Deo was the first capital of the Ahom Kingdom. Established by the Ahom king Chao Lung Su-ka-Pha founder of Ahom kingdom. Charaideo is 30km away from the Sivasagar city.
